Welcome to the project website for Middle Mill - a new state-of-the-art education facility for Kingston School of Art at Knights Park.

Kingston University has now submitted a planning application to the Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames. Here you will find more information about our innovative design by internationally renowned Grafton Architects, the benefits for Kingston's Creative Quarter and how community engagement has shaped the final proposals.

The proposed redevelopment will transform the Middle Mill site at Knights Park into a vibrant Creative Quarter, providing new studio-based teaching spaces for Kingston School of Art students and some publicly accessible facilities including exhibition space, a café, and improved public realm for the benefit of students, staff and the wider Kingston community.

Our innovative and highly sustainable design has been carefully developed by Grafton Architects, winners of the RIBA Stirling Prize and EU Mies van der Rohe Award, for Kingston University’s Town House building on nearby Penrhyn Road. It incorporates feedback received from the local community through the consultation process, which ran from November 2024 to September 2025. The final proposals reflect valuable input from residents, local community groups, technical consultees, staff and students who gave us their feedback.

We would like to thank everyone who contributed to shaping these proposals. Your engagement has been instrumental in creating a development that enhances the University and also provides benefits to the wider borough.
